What is an accent?
Each language selects a limited number of distinct sound categories (called phonemes) from the hundreds of possible speech sounds, and each of these sounds has an almost infinite number of variations. When we learn a second language (as a rule, after about 13 years of age) we generally use the sounds from our native language to approximate those of the new (target) language. The problem is that those sounds are generally not exactly the same (or they may not even exist in one of the languages).
Furthermore, each language has its own rhythm and music (intonation). If you use the rhythm and intonation patterns of your native language, you will probably have a very strong accent in the target language: and this is certainly true of English and French!
How do you reduce it?
As a result of the matters mentioned above, we need to learn to make (sometimes very subtle) changes to a large number of very old habits -- habits that we are usually not even aware of.
To accomplish these changes, we need a competent guide, and a lot of practice. The guide should be a native speaker of the target language, and should have a good deal of training in articulatory phonetics (the science of the physiology of the production of speech sounds).
How important is an accent?
Well, it all depends... It depends on how "strong" it is, who you are talking to, and your own goals and needs.
Do you have to sound like an American to be understood?
This is an easy one! No! Of course not! You do NOT have to sound like an American! A French accent can be charming (even sexy!) -- even a very noticeable one. As you might expect, there are many other aspects of language that can interfere with understanding as much if not more than just accent. However, it is important that your pronunciation be accurate enough to fall within the range of sounds that a naive native speaker of (American) English expects. An overly strong accent can render your flawless grammar useless!
How long does it take?
Well... it is not instantaneous.. it usually takes a few months..
so you do need to be determined! After all, I can not change your
accent, only you can do that.
How much does it cost?

propre langue (ce qui n'est que naturel!) vous aurez probablement
un accent qui sera très fort! C'est certainement le cas pour
l'anglais et le français.
Comment s'y prends-t-on pour le reduire?
Suite à ce que nous avons vu plus haut, nous avons besoin
d'apprendre à faire de nombreux changements (parfois très subtiles)
a des très anciens habitudes -- habitudes dont on n'est généralement
même pas conscient!
Pour réussir ces changements, il nous faut un guide compétent,
et beaucoup d'entrainement! Le guide sera, dans l'idéale, un natif de la
langue cible, et aura une formation assez poussé dans la phonetique
articulatoire (la science de la physiologie de la production des sons
de la parole).
Quelle importance a un accent?
Eh bien, ça dépend... si c'est très fort ça peut empécher de
comprendre. Mais tout dépend de vos buts et vos besoins.
Faut-il sonner comme un américain pour être compris?
Bien sur que non! Un accent français peut être tout à fait
charmant (même sexy!) même quand il est assez fort, mais il y a bien
d'autres aspects de la langue qui peuvent interferer
autant sinon plus que l'accent.
Néanmoins, il est bien important d'avoir une prononciation
suffisamment précise pour tomber dans la gamme de sons auxquels
s'attend un natif.
Un accent trop fort peut rendre inutile votre grammaire impeccable!
Combien de temps faut-il?
Ca aussi, ça dépend.. mais ce n'est pas instantané!
En général, ça prend quelque mois, et donc vous devez être décidé!
Après tout, c'est pas moi qui changerai votre accent -- il n'y a que
vous qui puissiez le faire!
Et le coût?
Normalement, vous pouvez rédure votre accent de moitié
en 13 semaines pour 1000€. Mais chaque année, les 5 premiers reduisent leur accent
de moitié à moitié prix, c'est à dire 500€ pour la session de 13
